HOW DO I USE KNOCKOFF TO HANG FIBER CEMENT SIDING? A: Knockoff is a revolutionary product that slashes the time required to hang fiber cement siding and allows just one person to hang the job. Now, even a novice can level, hang, and secure heavy siding quickly and easily. For detailed instructions on how to use Knockoff, visit our instructions page and be sure to watch the video.
WHAT KIND OF FASTENER DO I USE TO ATTACHED MY SIDING? A: The type of fastener you use depends on the type of siding you're hanging and to what base material you are hanging it to. Look for this information to be included with the siding you purchased and follow the recommendations given by the manufacturer.
IS KNOCKOFF VISIBLE AFTER INSTALLATION? A: Knockoff is completely invisible once siding is hung. They are designed to break off precisely, each and every time, above the board -- allowing every board to remain flush against each other. See our specs page to view how the clips break.
WILL KNOCKOFF CLIPS DAMAGE THE SURFACE OF MY PRE-PAINTED OR PRE-STAINED SIDING? A: No. Removal of Knockoff Clips NEVER mars the surface of fiber cement siding, whether it is pre-stained or pre-painted. In fact, using Knockoff Clips helps prevent damage by holding the boards securely in place before fastening. They also help prevent the type of damage that can occur when using some metal tools.
HOW DOES KNOCKOFF KEEP FIBER CEMENT SIDING LEVEL? A: Once the first row of siding has been installed level, the Knockoff is designed to overlap the siding 1-1/4" each and every time -- keeping every row as level as the row beneath it. There is no need to check each board with a level during installation.
HOW MUCH DOES KNOCKOFF COST? A: Considering the labor savings, using Knockoffs WILL ACTUALLY INCREASE YOUR BOTTOM LINE. Visit our distributors section for information on a distributor near you. They can give you pricing details for the quantity of Knockoff you wish to order.
HOW MANY KNOCKOFF CLIPS WILL I NEED TO BUY? A: Since each job varies and is dependent upon the number of windows, doors, length of walls, etc., there is no formula to determine the exact number of Knockoffs you will need. However, a good estimate can be achieved by multiplying the number of boards your job requires by 1.5. For example, if your job requires 600 fiber cement boards, you will need approximately 900 Knockoff clips. Some installers have found it helpful to "double up" on the clips when hanging 12" siding.
HOW ARE KNOCKOFFS SUPERIOR TO OTHER METHODS OF HANGING FIBER CEMENT SIDING? A: By acting as a separate set of hands, Knockoffs allow one-person installation. Removal of Knockoffs NEVER results in marring the surface of the siding as can occur with some metal tools. And, since Knockoffs are invisible after being "knocked off," there is nothing to paint or caulk afterwards.
HOW DO I REMOVE THE EXPOSED KNOCKOFF CLIP? A: Once the fiber cement siding has been fastened, simply hit the exposed shelf on the Knockoff with a hammer and it will break off at the separation point. A useful tip is to use a box or an empty Knockoff bucket and hold it below the Knockoff you are striking; this will eliminate the need to pick up the broken pieces. WILL KNOCKOFF AFFECT THE WEATHERPROOFING OF MY SIDING? A: A small part of knockoff remains behind the siding once it is hung. This piece, however, does not affect the performance of siding in any way. Knockoff actually improves the performance of standard fiber cement siding by assuring that each row is level and spaced correctly.
